WEDDING

TOWNLEY—HOOPER On Tuesday afternoon, Joyce Raitt, second daughter of Mr and Mrs C. E. Hooper was married at St. Mary’s Church to Robert William, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Robert Townley, of Washdyke. The Ven. Archdeacon H. W. Monaghan officiated, the organist being Mr A. W. Vine. The church was decorated with lilies and pink roses. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a gown of pearl tinged cloisonne lace and silk georgette. The bodice made with deep oval cut neck, encircled by a trail of orange blossom buds, had long fitting sleeves and the waistline was indicated by a belt with jewelled clasp. Two flared flounces, edged with georgette were set at the back and fell with waterfall effect into the folds of the skirt which was broken with georgette godets. Buds and blossom in a coronet held the tulle veil worn over her face; a shower bouquet of rosebuds and lilies faintly tinged with pink was carried. The two bridesmaids, Misses Coira Hooper, the bride’s sister and Miss Peggy Watt, wore frocks of orchidmauve crepe sheer. The bodices pleated back and front into pointed yokes, were offset by slightly cowled lines high up to the neck and marked by tiny buttons at the centre of the back. The sleeves long and full, were drawn into narrow cuffs and wide swathed sashes were tied in a large bow. A cluster of violet flowers-was pinned on each shoulder to match the chaplet worn on their hair. Their bouquets were of pink and violet shaded sweetpeas and cineararias. Mr Alfred Riley was best man and the bridegroom’s brother Mr George Townley was groomsman.

As the bride left the church she was presented with a lucky floral horseshoe by little Valerie McTavish of Wellington.

At the reception the tables were decorated with vases of pink and white poppies and the bridal table with pink and cream roses. Mrs Hooper received the guests wearing a black delustred crepe frock patterned with shaded pink flowers and worn with furs and a black satane straw hat, the brim edged with tiny pink and blue flowers. Deep rose pink carnations were In her posy. Mrs Townley, mother of the bridegroom, wore a black morocain frock printed with red and dusty pink sprig design, made with a small tucked collar of pink and laide black hat finished with flat pink flowers. Mrs A. Riley, sister of the bride, wore a navy blue and white figured ensemble trimmed with crisp white organdi, navy hat, and a shoulder spray of white rosebuds .

For travelling the bride donned a tailored suit of brown English worsted worn with a pink blouse, brown straw hat, trimmed with brown and pink velvet. She also wore a brown fox fur stole.

Mr and Mrs Hooper entertained the guests at a dance at their home in the evening.

The bride and bridegroom will make their home at Wyndham, Southland.
