A light shower fell yesterday, but the sun broke through late in the afternoon. The judges appointed by the Otago Women s Gardening Circle, inspected the Fairlie and Alburj’ railway gardens during the week. Last year, both gardens annexed first prizes for conipetiions held throughout the Otago railway district. Two judgings are made, and the judges will again Inspect the gardens early in the New Year.

“SECRET AGENT" "Secret Agent.” Gaumont-British offering, features Madeleine Carroll, Peter Lorre, John Gielgud and Robert Young, and will be screened at Fairlie at 8.15 to-night. “Secret Agent,” a gripping adaptation of Somerset Maughan’s “Ashenden,” is the story of a member of the Secret Service, who sets out to thwart a Gentian spy during the Great War. Fluent staging swings the action from London to the Swiss Alps, thence to Mid-Europe. where suspenseful events culminate in a realistic train smash, following bombing by British ’planes. A piquant romantic slant and deft comedy touches relieve the engrossing canvas of espionage. The cast is brilliant, and the stars do their work excellently. There will be variety supporting features.

The Fairlie H.A.C.B.S. guessing competion was won by E. Watkins, Geraldine.
