WRESTLING

WALKER BEATS WESTCOATT. By Telegraph—Press Association ROTORUA, October 18. George Walker defeated Rusty Westcoatt, of Hawaii, in the seventh round of a professional wrestling contest on Saturday night, when he secured a back loop slam and incapacitated his opponent. Prior to this Westcoatt was leading with one fall, which he secured in the fifth round following a series of flying tackles and elbow jolts. It was an excellent match, in which Walker conceded his opponent a stone in weight. BLOMFIELD DISQUALIFIED By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 18. Disqualified because he kicked Don Noland in the face while they were bopi clambering back into the ring after a tumble through the ropes, “Lofty” Blomfield was the loser in tonight’s professional wrestling contest. Blomfield had secured a fall. In the sixth, Noland, who demonstrated several new and ingenious holds, applied a cradlehold which set the score even. Other holds used by Noland were a reverse deathlock, holding Blomfield on his back and manipulating his legs with his arm, and a novel hold in which he crossed Blomfleld’s legs, pinned them and so forced his knees violently apart in what appeared a most excruciating manner. The incident which closed the bout occurred in the eighth round. It was received by the large crowd with mixed approval, disgust, anger and approbation, A WIN FOR WOODS By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, October 18. The professional wrestling contest between Joe Woods, of America, and Francis Fouche, of France, ended in the fifth round in favour of Woods, who obtained the odd fall in three. The first fall was won by Woods. He was jolted under • the heart by his opponent, but replied with interest, a left arm jolt sending the Frenchman down. The latter stayed on the mat and Woods had no difficulty in pinning his shoulders. The second fall was a penalty one awarded to Fouche, who was knocked down with a hard jolt. Not content with this Woods rushed to the corner and lifted his knee up under the Frenchman’s chin. In spite of the warnings of the referee Woods repeated this performance twice more and a penalty fall was • promptly awarded against him. The fifth round had only commenced when Woods forearm jolted his opponent and then lifted him for a slam and a body press.
