SKI-ING AT RUAPEHU
A VISITOR’S VIEWS By Telegraph—Press Association THE CHATEAU, October 18. "The spring ski-ing at Ruapehu is marvellous and it compares very favourabjy with any country in the world,” said Mr Ernest Skardarasy, the noted Australian ski expert, who is making a tour of inspection of the leading New Zealand ski resorts. Mr Skardarasy said the snow on Ruapehu was excellent, and there were slopes suitable for al) classes of skiers from the novice to the expert. He was particularly Intrigued by Crater Lake. Previous to this week he had never before skfed on a volcano or in a crater. Ruapehu, he said, gave him the Impression, because of the variety of its ridges, of being a group of mountains rather than a single mount.
“There is a much longer downhill run on Ruapehu than anywhere fb Australia,” he said, “and with proper instruction from a qualified ski instructor New Zealand should be able to produce a strong team for next winter arid the Olympic Games. There are certainly facilities available here for training the Olympic teams of the world in preparation for the Games. European teams would be glad to have somewhere to train in the European summer and autumn before the Gamts.”
