The casualties Include both Jews and Arabs, War on Jews A Jewish boy, aged 11, was killed by shots tram brigands. In the Yemente Settlement other Jews, British subjects, came under fire during several spasmodic attacks. Ap Arab, Kemal Alami, who was recently recruited to the Police Invest!-, gallon Department, was shot dead. Children who were eye-witnesses, told of a young Jewish tailor who was Stabbed while sitting in a field reading. The children said that the Arab stabbed him five times in the stomach. HU condition U critical. A bus carrying workers to Jerusalem, alter they had been working in an American quarry near Motza, was heavily fired on, but there were no casualties. A Jewish motor-car travelling from Tel Av|v to Jerusalem was ambushed, shots causing the car to overturn. • The driver and four passengers were injured, two seriously. An ambulance arrived and it was also fired on. The police replied with machine-gun fire causing some casualties. Fines Reimposed The fine of £5OOO Imposed on Lydda City in 1936 having been only partially collected, it has been reimposed and the inhabitants are confined to their houses except for two hours daily. INTRIGUE WITH ITALY REPORTED INTENTIONS OF GRAND MUFTI United Frees Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright (Received October 19, MB a.m-> LONDON, October 18. The Jerusalem correspondent of “The Daily Herald" reports that the Grand Mufti is at present under armed guard in the village of Leganon, and is planning to visit Italy, presumably to seek Signor Mussolini’s support in his plans to harrass the British authorities In Palestine. The Grand Mufti before his flight told his friends of his intention to go to Italy. Pretests from Abyssinia The Ethiopian Moslepis and Arabs in Addis Ababa telegraphed to Mr Neville Chamberlain denouncing the British policy in Palestine, and joining with their Palestine brethren in the rejection ot the dismemberment of Palestine and separation from the remainder ot the Arab world. Lawlessness in Jerusalem An Armenian street photographer in Jerusalem, mistaken for an Arab, was critically shot to-day. A party of Arabs going to work was sniped, and - one was wounded.
