BIGGER BATTLES IN SPAIN
SCOPE OF LOYALIST DRIVE REBEL ACTIVITIES IN THE AIR United Press Association—By Electric Telpprnnh Convrtßht (Received October 15, 5.5 p.m.) BARCELONA, October 15. A fierce battle is being waged fifteen miles from Saragossa, which is the objective of the Government drive. The Government forces are attempting to push round the Insurgent lines along the Pyrenees frontier, and there are heavy losses on both sides. Rebel Claims The insurgents claim to have repulsed a terrific Republicai offensive on the Aragon front, and to have captured 16 tanks. The occupation of eight villages is claimed on the Asturian front. A Valencia report states that the northern Republican commander says that the town of Infiesto was savagely bombed by insurgent aircraft. A hundred houses were destroyed and many were killed. Batches of Italian and German prisoners have been released from the gaols and forced to work on the building of the Madrid-Cuenca railway. A Barcelona report says that aircraft from the Balearlcs again bombed Barcelona. There was heavy damage. ACTIVITY IN THE AIR REBELS BOMB CARTAGENA United Frees Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright (Received October 15, 5.5 p.m.) VALENCIA, October 15. Five rebel planes bombed Cartagena and machine-gunned the streets. Ten were killed. Including the Commander of the battleship Jaime I. Government fighters drove off the rebels, bringing one down at sea.
