FLOWER SHOW AND FAIR SUCCESSFUL INITIAL VENTURE Fairview residents have reason to feel gratified with their first spring flower show and fair which was held in the Hall on Saturday. Good entries had been received in all sections and these, together with an attractive display of handwork from the school, were much admired by the crowds which thronged the Hall during the afternoon and evening. The show was officially opened by Mr D. Brett Shand of Timaru who congratulated the Committee on its organisation and wished the function every success. At intevals during the evening dances and vocal and elocutionary items were given by the following:— Dorothy Lyne, Dorothy Drew, Audrey Beynon and Audrey McKay with Mrs Lyne as accompanist. Competitions were won by Mrs Doyle and Mr A. Brown. Mr Butler, chairman of the School Committee, who presented the prizes, thanked the judges for their assistance, and all those who had displayed blooms, given produce, and helped in the stalls. Much of the success of the show, he said was due to the work of the organising secretary Miss Tizard. A short but bright dance, with Mr Mack as M.C., to music kindly supplied by Mrs Conroy and Miss Dale concluded a most successful function.
