The Marquis of Clydesdale, the noted boxer, is affianced to Lady Elizabeth Percy, eldest daughter of the Duchess of Northumberland. The romance will unite famous families on either side of the border, once sworn enemies. “I think I have made the most successful raid ever carried out across the Border by a Douglas,” said the Marquis of Clydesdale at a luncheon to members of the Hamilton Presbytery, of which he is an elder. The Marquis added that the emnity between the Percys and/Douglasses dated from the fourteenth century. “The battle of the wooing of Lady Elizabeth began at Alnwick Castle and was carried to North Scotland, where I was finally successful.”
