MILLER, Chiet PostniH.siei Timaru, October 5, 1937. “The parents of many of the pupils smoke, so there can be no real harm to the children in teachers smoking on school premises during recess periods.” This was the comment of the headmaster of a Christchurch school on the decision of the Auckland Education Board to prohibit teachers from smoking in school buildings or grounds. Actually the Canterbury Board has not discussed the question, and there is no direction to teachers on the question. This is left to the discretion of headmasters. Naturally, headmasters and committees are enjoined to take all possible precautions against fire. The teachers in his school smoked in the staff room during recess periods, lunch periods and when they were doing overtime, without pay. the headmaster continued. “I think the □ld idea that a teacher should walk up the road if he wants to smoke has been dead for years.” Worm Syrup—Ayres’s Worm Syruo will quickly dispel all kinds of worms trom ths system.
