FALL OF ROCK
ROAD WORKER KILLED By Telegraph—Pres* Association WESTPORT, October 4. An accident on the Buller Gorge Road about a mile the other side of Tiroroa at 1.30 p.m. to-day resulted in the death of Ellis Leonard Hawke, single, aged 27, and injuries to Claude Thomas Floharty, aged 49, married, with four children, who was admitted to hospital with a fractured right leg and abrasions to the face and body. T' e accident occurred at the scene of road widening operations. The men were engaged in trimming the road surface and water table when, without warning, a fall occurred from the batter of 25 to 30 tons of rock and earth. Hawke was killed instantly.
