To clean water-bottles quickly and thoroughly, ■ drop in small pieces of newspaper with a little water and spike vigorously. Flat-irons will retain their heat longer if a clean brick, instead of a metal stand, is used.
Steep salad vegetables in water with a little borax. They will be delight- ' .ly fresh.
Instead of stewing rhubarb, put it into a basin or jar, then place the container into a pan of boiling water and rieam it. When food boils over on the stove, cover liberally with salt, and there will be no unpleasant odour. It is easily cleaned away when the stove is cool.
To prevent linen from going yellow when storing, wrap in an old piece of linen, dyed in' strong blue water. Bran may (be used ’ o clean wallpapers. Dust walls thoroughly, and apply the bran with a dry sponge, rubbing gently. Never throw’ away even the most decrepit umbrella frame. Covered with hessian, or even paper, and tied to a stake in the- ground, if is invaluable as a shade for young plants or flowers that are being kept for show purposes.
