WOMAN DEFRAUDED
ENGINEER SENT TO PRISON United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received September 20, 11.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, September 20. Jack Mann, aged 38, an engineer, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment fo~ obtaining £lOOO from Mrs Chistina Bremner, of Hawthorn, with intent to defraud by “falsely pretending he was in the habit of working commissions for the jockey, Andy Knox, and that he himself was placing £3OO on a certain racehorse.” The judge said that apparently Mann obtained £6OOO but the other charges were being abandoned. The woman had been crue’’ defrauded.
