QUEEN CARNIVAL

, WHEELBARROW RACES Considerable amusement was caused on Wednesday evening, when the Geraldine Citizens' Queen Committee conducted a wheelbarrow derby in Peel Street. The contestants were local business men and the “Derby” was won by Messrs M. Watson and C. Eathorne. Games and competitions also occupied the attention of the large number of spectators and the coffee stall conducted by the ladies of the committee, did brisk business. Results were as follow:—First heat: J. H. Lewis and D. Williams 1, A. M. Fyfe and E. P. Bennett 2; second heat, C. Eathorne and M. Watson 1, W. H. Kirk and W. T. Mayne 2; third heat, W. Angland and J. Fifleld 1, K. Wallach and D. Bennett 2; fourth heat. H. Davis and A. Ford 1, K. Blyth and M. Broad 2; semi-final, H. Davis and A. Ford 1; C. Eathorne and M. Watson 2. Final: C. Eathorne and M. Watson. Boys’ wheelbarrow: G. Eathorne 1, F. Richards 2. High School: W. Shearer 1, J. Bowkett 2. Messrs A. M. Fyfe and J. Mcllroy who challenged the field were taken up by Messrs L. Bennington and P. McKenzie. The challengers won the race. SEVEN ASIDE TOURNEY Tile following is the senior team to represent the Geraldine Football Club in the seven a-side tournament tomorrow: P. McShane, G. Vial, A. Vincent, K. Blyth. P. Callanan, C. Eathorne, H. Worner. Emergency: A. Martin. “THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE” “The Charge of the Light Brigade,” the Warner Bros, picture, co-starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, will be screened at the Municipal Theatre to-night and to-morrow night. Patrons are reminded that the feature picture will commence at 8.15 p.m. and a special attraction for to-night only will be the Springboks v. Canterbury match. The soul-stirring spirit of Lord Tennyson’s immortal poem, “Charge of the Light Brigade,” carries through the picture to the terrific climax—although the tragic love story of the two English brothers who make love to the same Scottish girl, makes up the real substance of the story. It 1s at an army post in India that the idyll of Captain Geoffrey Vickers and Elsa Campbell begins and ends. The illfated lovers are unforgettably portrayed by Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. NOTES The annual meeting of the Geraldine Tennis Club will be held in the Presbyterian Hall at 8 o’clock next Tuesday evening.
