NEW ZEALANDERS IN SCOTLAND OPENING OF TWO-DAY MATCH United Press Association—By Electric Telecrapb —Copyright DUNFERMLINE. July 20. The commencement of the match. New Zealand versus Scotland, was delayed until after lunch owing to rain. The wicket had been covered, but it was soft, and the outfield was very slow. Hadlee was aggressive, off-driving and hooking in fine style. Roberts batted steadily, his shoulder standing the strain well. After tea the drying wicket favoured the left-hander Melville, while Farquhar, a fast medium bowler, was also effective. Five wickets were down for 119. Scotland were bowling and fielding well, but Weir and Page added 50 at a difficult time. New Zealand’s score would have been much larger if the wet outfield had not reduced to two’s, many strokes which ordinarily would have been fours. Chilly weather reduced the attendance, which was approximately 1.000. The team is being most hospitably entertained in Scotland. The invitations are so numerous that many have to be declined, including a dinner with the Carnegie Trust. An early start is planned for to-morrow to compensate for the time lost to-day. Following are the scores:
