July 21, 6.17 a.m CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Cold and raw weather was experienced yesterday . when the sky was mainly overcast, the sun appearing only at intervals. The sky cleared in the evening, however, and a frosty atmosphere foretold improved conditions for to-day. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Ba rometer —29.94. Max. temp.—43. Min. temp, on grass—2o.4 degrees. Frost—ll. 6 degrees. Wind—Calm. Rain to 9 p.m.—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—l3.l7in. Rainfall to date last year—lB.s6ins. Sunshine—3.B hours. Sunshine to dale this year—97o.3hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: The weather was fine and for the most part sunny yesterday, but a keen north-east breeze was blowing. The maximum temperature was 46.5 degrees. The barometer showed a falling tendency and registered 29.99 in at 5 p.m. Geraldine: Frost 10 degrees; air temperatures, min. 22, max. 54, at 9 a.h. 40. Bright and fine during the morning, dull and bitterly cold in the afternoon. '
Temuka: After a cold, fine night, yesterday was cold and dull with a frost of 14 degrees. The maximum temperature was 43 degrees. The glass was falling last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Thermometer, maximum 43.2, minimum 28; frost, 11.8 degrees. bright sunshine, 6 hours 18 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 85. Yesterday was sunny but became very chilly in the late afternoon. Dunedin: There was a fresh northeast breeze yesterday and the weather we . cold, the maximum temperature being 44 degrees. The barometer fell to 30.00 inches and remained steady. CANTERBURY FORECAST Special to "The Timaru Herald." WELLINGTON, July 19. Winds: Light to moderate northerly to north-westerly, freshening somewhat and backing to westerlies or in places temporarily to south-westerlies during Tuesday. Weather: Fair to fine at first, but later some scattered rains probable, temperatures milder. Seas: Slight to moderate, but becoming rough north of Kalkoura.
