OBITUARY

MRS CATHERINE HARRIS A memorial service in honour of Mrs Catherine Harris, the oldest soldier in the Salvation Army in Timaru who died recently, was held in the Salvation Army Citadel on Sunday night. The service was conducted by Major Bartlett. Mrs Harris was born at Roche, Cornwall in 1846 and came to New Zealand in the Opawa, landing at Timaru in 1878. She was married to Mr James Harris in the year 1870, and lived at Peeress Town for a number of years. Later she shifted to Kensington, but in recent years, Mrs Harris had lived with her daughter, Mrs W. H. Cowles. She joined the Salvation Army the second night the division opened in Timaru, when Captain Smith and Lieutenant Ford were officers in charge. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. Mrs Harris is survived by five daughters and one son.
