W.C.T.U.

A pleasant afternoon arranged by the members of the W.C.T.U. was held at the Sailors’ Rest, Mrs Heitt, Dominion president being the guest. There was a splendid attendance of members and friends. Mrs Cave president of the Timaru Branch extended a welcome to Mrs Heitt.

After tea had been dispensed, Mrs Heitt gave an address illustrating the present position of various departments of the Union’s work. The Union throughout the world combined with other women's organisations in all efforts for social reforms, and uplift tn the conditions of women and children. The freedom from war movement was one of the many departments of work. She spoke of the use of non alcoholic fruit drinks showing many ways in which r.on-alcohollc wine might be used. The problem of how to employ the extra leisure time caused by the 40 hour week was a question that was being debated by the Dominion officers. Mrs McAllister moved a vote of thanks to Mrs Heitt, which was carried by acclamation.
