ANNUAL CONTESTS

ASHBURTON AND TIMARU TECHNICAL SCHOOLS The Timaru Technical School won the Rugby match, and the B grade basketball game, when the annual matches against the Ashburton Technical School were played in Timaru yesterday. Ashburton won the A grade basketball, and drew with Timaru in the C grade. The schools will play return matches at Ashburton in August. The Rugby match, which Timaru won by 7 points to 6, was fast and open, considering the heavy state of the ground at Anzac Square. In a very even game Timaru had a slight territorial advantage in the first half, but were hard pressed on many occasions in the second spell. For Timaru, J. Glover potted a goal, and B. Annals scored a try, while Ashburton’s points came from tries by Muir and Bennett. The scores in the basketball tournament were as follow: A Grade—Ashburton 22, Timaru 13. B Grade—Timaru 30, Ashburton 14. C Grade—A drawn game.
