MILKING CONTEST

HON. P. FRASER AS JUDGE By Telegraph—Ur ess Association WHANGAREI, June 30 Over 1,000 Whangarel residents had a laugh at the expense of prominent citizens who took part in a cow milking contest, which was one of the highlights of the show week here. Despite rain, a big crowd turned out to watch the fun. The Hon. P. Fraser, who earlier opened the exhibition, acted as judge and entered freely into the carnival spirit. Mr W. Jones, Mayor, was the first to empty the udder, closely followed by Mr H. W. James, president of the A. and P. Society. The prize for a quality product was awarded to Mr James, after Mr Fraser had called In the referees to make a test. Their finding was such that Mr Fraser announced that it was understood that the cow would be sold to the brewery firm.
