ADDINGTON

NORMAL ENTRIES LITTLE CHANGE IN VALUES B 5 Telegraph—Press Assoclailou CHRISTCHURCH, June 30. Entries were of normal size at today’s Addington market, and considering that export buyers had ceased operations for the season, the sale was a good one. Store Sheep There was a good sale for all classes in the store sheep section, the entry being made up mainly of hoggets. Wether hoggets made up to 20/6, this price being paid for a pen of wellwoolled, well-conditioned animals. Wether hoggets generally showed an advance of about 1/- a head on last week’s rates. Ewe hoggets made up to 27/3, this being paid for a nice pen of Romney cross. One-year cross-bred ewes sold at 26/-, and a pen of twotooth wethers realised 25/-. A feature of the market was the good demand for the older ewes offered, these selling at an advance of from 1/- to 1/6 on last week’s prices. Open-woolled sheep met with the best demand because of their resistance to foot-rot. Fat Lambs Only 200 were forward and these sold at recent export rates to the local trade. Exporters were not operating. Fat Sheep Export buyers were not operating in the fat sheep market, as the works close down to-day for export killing. Some excellent quality was offered and this was keenly competed for by the trade, both ewes and wethers making the best of late rates, with young, forward wethers showing a slight improvement in values. Unfinished sheep, which comprised a fair proportion of the yarding, were not wanted and suffered a relapse, but good medium and light sorts had a firm sale. The entry was again a large one, the empty lamb pens being used for the overflow. Because of the wet weather, farmers are unable to keep their sheep in condition, and also run the risk of foot trouble, and with the tempting prices now ruling the sequence of big yardings is being maintained. Outstanding wethers from Pleasant Point were offered early in the afternoon, the tops making up to 45/10 and others In the

Fat Cattle The entry was smaller than that of last week, comprising 500 head, compared with 535. Some good lines were included from local fattening districts, the Peninsula and southern districts. The entry included more prime heifers than for a number of sales. The market opened somewhat dragglngly, and although there was scarcely as free a demand there was little change in values for the better quality steers and heifers. These sold steadily as the sale progressed. The weaker section were the cows, these scarcely maintaining last week's rates. The best of the beef made in the vicinity of 35/- per 1001 b, and quite an amount about 33/-. Values were:—
