WINTER SHOW PLANS
To the Editor of ” The Timaru Herald.” Sir—l heartily agree with "Fairplay” in his remarks with reference to the entertainment at the Winter Show. If he, as a stallholder in the main building, finds that the people are detained too long for him to do business, what of the sideshow- men w-ho are on the outside. By the time the
entertainment is over and the people look around, it is 9.30 before they arrive in side show alley and owing to the cold draught they do not stay long. Last year £9O was collected in rents while this year the organiser proudly states that £2OO was charged at the ridiculous price of 25/- per foot frontage. Larger towns than Timaru charge about half that scale. At least two stands have only about five feet in front of their stalls in w'hich to work and have to contend with the full force of the draught from the main door. Now it is up to the authorities to give the men who have paid £2OO in hard cash a reasonable opportunity to at least get their money back and finish the entertainment not later than 8.30, and next year build a wider space. Thanking you, by one W’ho is interested.—l am. etc., GRABALL. Timaru. June 24.
