WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MT. NESSING At the annual meeting of the Mt. Nessing Women’s Institute, there was a small attendance of members. The report of the year’s work was read by the secretary. In the absence of the treasurer (Mrs H. Fisher) the secretary presented the balance sheet which was considered very satisfactory. Correspondence was received from the Pentreath Institute with which the Institute had formed a link, from Mrs H. Knubley thanking members for their message of sympathy and from Miss Spender thanking members for their congratulatory message. The articles in “Home and Country” by Mrs Deans and Mrs Watts, regarding, institute finances were also read by the secretary.

The president asked members to forward to her by the end of the week if possible suggestions for the pro-

gramme for the next six months. Meetings will in future commence at 2 p.m. Mrs R. W. Irving thanked the members and the committee for their loyal support during the year, the retiring secretary (Mrs Glass) and the treasurer (Mrs Fisher) neither of whom sought re-election. The secretary was presented by Mrs J. C. Macaulay with a bouquet of roses. The secretary was instructed to write to the treasurer, who is leaving for England, thanking her for her work on the committee and wishing her bon voyage. A vote of thanks was passed to the honorary auditor, Mr Austin and to the Mt. Nessing hall committee for the use of the hall. As there were only the required number of nominations for the committee there was no need for an election. Following is the new committee: Mesdames R. W. Irving (who was reelected president), W. Stevenson, P. Kidd, H. G. Waters, W. C. Brown, H. Knubley and Miss K. Fraser. Mrs R. W. Irving then introduced Mrs Wilkinson, a visitor from overseas, who gave a very interesting talk on Jerusalem, which members greatly enjoyed. On the motion of Mrs W. C. Brown the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Competitions resulted.—Collection of vegetables: Mrs Glass 1, Miss Waters 2, Miss P. Brown 3. Supper savoury: Miss P. Brown 1, Mrs R. W. Irving 2, Mrs Glass 3. Thrift article: Mrs Brown 1, Miss P. Brown 2, Mrs Glass 3. Prizes for aggregate points in the year’s competitions will be presented at the April meeting. Mrs J. C. Macaulay acted as pianiste.
