ATTEMPT ON RECORD FAILS By Telegraph -P> esF Association DUNEDIN, March 7. Before a large attendance at the Caledonian Ground yesterday afternoon, Kohei Murakoso, the visiting Japanese athlete, attempted to break the two mile record of 9min 20 l-sseo established in 1927 by R. A. Rose. Murakoso's time was 9min 21 4-ssec, and though he failed he ran a brilliant race and received an ovation. The Otago man, W. A. C. Pullar, who also was off scratch, kept pace with the Japanese runner until there were three and a-half laps to go. Murakoso then opened up a gap and won by about 100 yards. A. R. Geddes snatched second place from Pullar by inches.
