TRAGIC LOVE AFFAIR
MAORI BOY TAKES HIS LIFE By Telegraph— Pr*»R.« ROTORUA, March 6. A love affair between a young Maori college boy, Frederick Oneroa (16), and a Maori girl (17) both of Horohoro, near Rotorua ended tragically, when Oneroa committed suicide by shooting himself through the heart with a single barrel shotgun. At the inquest the evidence showed that the boy became very depressed when the parents of the girl refused to consent to the young couple’s marriage. Oneroa took his father’s gun while his parent was in the milking shed, and when a Maori woman tried to stop him, the boy punched her severely in the face. The father made a search for the youth, but was too late to prevent the tragedy, the boy being found lying on his back with the gun beside him.
The Coroner returned a verdict that Oneroa died of a gunshot wound selfinflicted.
