DEPOSITS INCREASE
POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK By Tel ear aph Press Association WELLINGTON, January 31. A review of the Post Office Savings Bank business for the year January 1 to December 31, 1936, shows the total deposits to be £28,564,310 as against £24,972,362 for the calendar year 1935, said the Postmaster General, Hon. F. Jones, on Saturday. The excess of deposits over withdrawals last calendar year amounted to £2,685,569 compared with £1,822,017 for 1935. The interest credited to depositors on March 31 last amounted to £1,406,459. The Minister added that the amount standing at the credit of depositors on December 31 last was £54,900,000 as compared with £50,800,000 in December 31, 1935, representing an increase for last year of approximately £4,100,000.
