NEW YEAR HONOURS SERVICES RENDERED TO DOMINION By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, January 31. The Governor-General announces the following New Year Honours in recognition of services rendered to the Dominion: — Knight Bachelor George Alexander Troup, C.M.G., Wellington. t George Harper, 0.8. E., Christchurch. Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) Professor Hugh Mackenzie, M.A., foundation Professor of English Language and Literature at Victoria University College, Wellington. Commander of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.8.E.) Captain Llewellyn Vaughan Morgan. M.V.0., D.S.C., R.N., formerly Second Naval Member of the New Zealand Naval Board. Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.8.E.) Joseph William Allan Heenan, LL.B., Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington. Officer of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.8.E.) Miss Anna Elizabeth Jerome Spencer, of Omatua, Rissington, Hawke’s Bay, founder of the Women’s Institute and the Townswomen's Guild movements in New Zealand. Miss Eileen May Duggan, M.A., of Wellington. Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (M.8.E.) Richard Brown, J.P., formerly secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board. Harold Archibald Sommerville, secretary of the Auckland Hospital Board. William Shakespear Wharton, J.P., secretary of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, Christchurch. Sir George Alexander Troup is a native of Aberdeen and came to New Zealand in 1884. He joined the public service and retired on superannuation in 1924. At the time of his retirement he was officer in charge of the Architectural branch. Sir George was Mayor of Wellington for four years, and has served on many public and private bodies. He unsuccessfully contested the Wellington North seat in 1931. Sir George Harper, who is a son of the late Bishop Harper, was educated at Radley, Eton and Christ’s College. He was admitted as a barrister of the Inner Temple in 1869 and as a barrister and solocitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in 1870. He is a trustee of the McLean Institute and a Fellow and Sub-Warden of Christ’s College. Henry John Sheehan, of Canberra, Secretary to the Treasury. Arthur Streeton, landscape artist. Alexander Anderson Stewart, of Melbourne, consulting engineer and company director. C.B. Major-General John Dudley Lavarack, Chief of the General Staff, Australian Military Forces. C.M.G. Hubert Frazer East, of Brisbane, for many years State president of the Returned Soldiers’ and Sailors* League. C. Surgeon-Captain William James Carr, Director of Medical Services, Australian Navy. Donald Mac Kay, of Sydney, explorer. P.C. Robert Gordon Menzies, Commonwealth Attorney-General. D. Mrs Mary Gilmore, writer and poetess. The New South Wales Honours include:— C.M.G. William Rupert McCourt, Clerk of the Legislative Assembly. The Victorian Honours are as under:— King's Police Medal John Thomas Wilkins, chief officer, Metropolitan Fire Brigade Board, Melbourne. C.B.E. Civil Division C. A. Norris, general manager of the National Mutual Life Association of Australasia, Ltd. 0.8. E. Civil Division Mrs Mary Daly, who is prominently associated with Catholic charities.
