Results:— CHALLENGE STAKES Of £800; 6 furlongs Silver Rose, 7.2 (O’Sullivan) .. .. 1 King’s Head, 9.7 (Bartie) 2 Falstaff, 8.4 (Heather) 3 Fourteen started. Country Party was scratched. It was a thrilling finish. Won by a short neck, half a length between second and third. Goorka was fourth. Gay Blonde was ninth and Hadrian last. Time, lmin. 115 sec. JANUARY HANDICAP Of £500; li miles Fireman, 7.1 (Hanley) 1 Autoland, 7.3 (Knox) 2 Mananui, 8.1 (McCarten) 3 Ten started, including Latharina. Won by a head, half a length between second and third. Lord Willonyx was unplaced in the Trial Hurdles. Treasure Trove was second in the first division of the Novice Handicap, which was won by Mordent. Inver and Bengal Lancer were unplaced in the Bondi Handicap, which was won by Lord Bine. Normandy. Glenora Boy, The Chief, and Dream Song were unplaced in the Widden Handicap, which was won by Caesar, owned by Sir Colin Stephen, chairman of the Australian Jockey Club. On Parade was third in the Paddington Handicap, in which Viceroy was unplaced. ASCOT MEETING (Received January 31, 6.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 30 At the Ascot races to-day Cheque and Colossical were unplaced in the Sandhurst Welter Handicap.
