Miss Margaret Beverley also won the intermediate girls’ singles and intermediate mixed doubles with J. W. Cunn.
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
MCGRATH WINS SINGLES TITLE (Received January 31, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 31. In the Australian tennis championships results were: Men’s Singles Final: V. McGrath defeated W. Bromwich, 6- 1-6, 6-0, 2-6, 6-1. Women’s Singles Semi-Final: Miss N. Wynne (Victoria) defeated Miss T. Coyne (New South Wales), 7- 4-6, 6-4. Women’s Doubles Final: Misses Coyne and N. Wynne defeated Mrs Westacott (Queensland) and Mrs Hopman (Victoria) t 6-2, 6-2. Boy’s Junior Doubles Final: Bromwich and D. Pails defeated H. Lindo and J. Gilchrist, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Men’s Doubles Semi-Final. Bromwich and Harper defeated Crawford and McGrath 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Quist and Turnbull beat Thompson and Turvey 6-3,’10-8, 6-2. Mixed Doubles Semi-Final. Turnbull and Miss Stevenson defeated Lewis and Miss Rice 6-3, 6-3. Hopman and Mrs Hopman beat Moon and Miss Wynne 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. EXHIBITION MATCH In a Davis Cup exhibition match, Quist and Schwartz v. A. Huxley and D. Turnbull, play was abandoned when the score was 4-6, 6-3, 10-10. McGrath in rare form The McGrath-Bromwich match was generally conceded to be up to Davis Cup standard. McGrath was in rare form. He seldom missed a smash and so placed it as to be quite impossible of return. Bromwich won two sets almost as he liked but McGratn dominated the other three.
