QUEENSLAND BOWLERS

GUESTS OF LOCAL CLUB Twenty-one members of the Queensland bowling team, including five women members of the party, accepted the invitation of the Geraldine Bowling Club and broke their journey at Geraldine yesterday morning, being the guests of the local club for morning tea. The visitors arrived at the Geraldine Post Office at 9.45, where they were met by the Mayor (Mr B. R. Macdonald) and the president of the club (Mr A. J. Burmester) and several members. The visitors were then taken for a short walk through the park on their way to the bowling green, and were greatly impressed by the beautiful scenery and surroundings of the rose gardens and motor camp. On arrival at the green the tourists were entertained at morning tea by lady members of the local club, and opportunity was taken by the president (Mr A. J. Burmester) to extend a welcome to the visitors, which, he added, “was no less warm than this beautiful summer’s morning.” The Mayor (Mr B. R. Macdonald), in extending a welcome on behalf of the town, wished the tourists a very pleasant journey and tour. He was sorry, he added, that it was not a week

day, so that a game could-have been played. Mr Colin Campbell, .replying, said it was a very pleasant surprise to them all to call at Geraldine for morning tea. The tour, he continued, was made with the object of creating good will between the people of Queensland and New Zealand. He thanked sincerely the Geraldine members for their hospitality and called for cheers for the president, the Mayor and the president’s wife, which were heartily responded to.
