CLAIM AGAINST ACTOR
CLARK GABLE INVOLVED United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 29, 10.0 p m.) LOS ANGELES, January 28. Mr Joseph Painter, counsel for Mrs Norton, announced that he would demand a blood test to determine if Clark Gable is the father of Mrs Norton’s daughter. He said he would withdraw from the case if the test absolved the actor. Yesterday Mrs Norton had been indicted on charges of conspiracy in using the mails to defraud two private detectives. One Canadian was also indicted on a charge of conspiracy. Mrs Violet Norton, aged 47, a Canadian, was arrested and charged with attempting to obtain money from Clark Gable, claiming that he is the father of her 13-year-old daughter, who was born in England in 1922. When she saw Gable on the screen Mrs Norton said she recognised him. Gable said he had never been in England and he did-not know the woman. He had no knowledge whatever of the circumstances involved. Gable added that in 1922 and 1923 he worked in a Portland department store, and as a lumberjack in the Oregon woods.
