Feb. 18 3.50 p.m. Full Moon Feb. 25 7.43 p.m. CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Ideal summer weather again favoured Timaru yesterday, when conditions were sunny and pleasant, with the temperature tempered by a cool sea breeze. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—29.44. Max. temp.—7l.4. Min. temp, on grass—4s. Wind—N.E.l. t Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—3.62ins. Rainfall to date last year—l.3lins. Sunshine—lo. 7 hours. Sun shine to date this year—2ol.3hrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: Yesterday was warm and sunny with a light n.w. breeze in the morning and a fresh e.n.e. in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 77.5 degrees. The barometer after falling rose steadily to 29.481 n. Ashburton: Conditions yesterday were again bright and warm. There was an early threat of clouds from the south, but these soon cleared away, though a bank of fog lay along the coast. There was a moderate wind from the south to temper the heat. Geraldine: Ideal conditions prevailed yesterday. Temuka: Yesterday was fine and warm with a light nor’-wester. The maximum temperature was 65 degrees and the minimum 44. The glass was falling last evening. Waimatc: Thermometer: Maximum, 72.8, minimum 49. Wind gauge, miles run in the last 24 hours, 58. Yesterday was sunny throughout the day. Dunedin: Pleasantly warm conditions and a fresh north-east breeze prevailed yesterday with alternating periods of cloud and sunshine. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees. Barometer fell sharply to 29.44 in. DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation —A cyclone of tropical origin is now centred east of Auckland Peninsula and travelling south-eastwards. A westerly depression followed by several secondaries is moving on to the South Island, while an anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Winds—Moderate to strong southeasterlies north of Kawhia and Gisborne, reaching gale force in places, later turning more southerly; elsewhere light to fresh north-west to west, shortly backing to southerlies and increasing. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rough north of East Cape and rather rough to rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate but later increasing, especially about and north of Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong south-westerly or southerly winds, and rather rough to rough .seas. Weather—Fair at first in the eastern districts or the South Island, otherwise cloudy to overcast and in places misty, fairly general rain is probable with many heavy falls over the North Island, temperatures cooler to-morrow.
