AN ALLEGED BURGLAR P- Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, December 26 A Maori named George Frederick Murphy, who was allegedly wounded in a conflict with the police, appeared at the Police Court to-day on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, and being found in possession of housebreaking implements at Pokeno, on December 5, also on the same date with breaking and entering the shop of the Farmers’ Trading Company, at Pokeno, with intent to commit a crime. Murphy, who had to be assisted into the dock by two policemen, was remanded until January 14. Counsel (Mr Sullivan) said he was still crippled as a result of being shot in the abdomen, and had already been punished very severely.
