Dec. 28, 4.0 p.m. CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Visitors to the town were not disappointed in their choice ol a holiday place, for the weather during the week-end was ideal. The sunshine of Saturday and yesterday was warm and pleasant, but the south-east breeze of the former day had increased yesterday, slightly spoiling otherwise perfect conditions. Saturday morning was overcast but warm, changing later to a very cold strong east wind. The same wind ruled yesterday, when it was again cold and overcast. Geraldine.—Saturday, bright sunshine throughout the day. Yesterday, dull and overcast early, with bright sunshine later. Dunedin. —Bright summer weather prevailed on Saturday, the sun shining brilliantly until well into the afternoon when the sky became lightly overcast. There was a fresh southwesterly breeze in the earlier part of the morning but this swung round to the north-east, remaining light for the remainder of the day. The temperature was very warm, the maximum reading at mid-day being 72 deg. Yesterday was bright and fine although a strong north-easterly breeze kept the temperature down somewhat, the maximum at mid-day being 68 deg. There was a fair amount of passing cloud. The barometer remained in the vicinity of 30.20 in.

DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation. —An anti-cyclone of slight intensity covers New Zealand and the area to the eastward. A rather more intense anti-cyclone is locatet over south-eastern Australia. Between these is a depression of considerable activity. Winds.—Light to moderate northeasterlies freshening gradually especially in and south of Cook Strait and tending more northerly, changing to southerlies by the morning In the southern half of the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters). —Slight to moderate but rising later south of Cape Egmont. Eastern Tasman Sea. —Light to moderate north-east to northerly winds, freshening somewhat; a southerly change advancing from the west during the next 24 hours. Weather. —Cloudy, warm and sultry but otherwise mainly fine at first, rain developing shortly, however, in the northern and western districts and becoming general within 24 hours, a cool change to-morrow in the southern portion of the South Island.
