There was no further rain but a chilly northerly wind was blowing. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—29.42. Max. temp.—6o.4. Min. temp, on grass—49.B. Wind—S.E. 2. Rainfall at 9 a.m— ,04in. Rainfall to date this year—29.3lins. Rainfall to date last year—lB 86ins. Sunshine—Nil. Sunshine to date this year—lsl7.o6 hours. IN OTHER CENTRES Ashburton: After dull conditions on Sunday, yesterday was fine. The sky was overcast, but the temperature mild, with a wind from the south-east. Two points of rain fell in scattered showers on Sunday, when the maximum temperature was 57.2 degrees. Christchurch: The weather was cloudy in the morning with sunshine in the late afternoon. The wind was from the north-west. The maximum temperature was 70.8 degrees. The barometer, after falling, was steady later at 29.65 in.

Geialdine: Air temperatures, min. 52, max. 60, at 9 a.m. 48. Dull and overcast conditions prevailed throughot. the day.

DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m •yesterday) General Situation: An anti-cyclone has continued to extend across northern New Zealand, but a series of westerly depressions is passing in the south. Winds: Variable at first in the far south but mainly easterly or southeasterly, otherwise moderate to strongwinds between north-west and southwest prevailing, reaching gale force at times about Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough in the Cook Strait area and rather rough on the West Coast of the South Island, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong westerly winds backing later to southerlies in the southern portion, seas moderate to rather rough. Weather: Fine on the East Coast of the North Island, but elsewhere mainly cloudy or overcast; further rain probable in the western and southern portions of the South Island with some heavy falls in Westland, some isolated showers also in the western and central areas of the North Island; temperatures warm but becoming cooler later in the south.
