“MATTER FOR PEOPLE INTERESTED” WATER SUPPLY SCHEME At a meeting of the Fairlie Volunteer Fire Brigade, the chairman of the Mackenzie County Council, Mr C. J. Talbot, referred to the problem of a water supply and said that the whole question was one for the ratepayers interested. The Council, he stated, if requested by a representative body of ratepayers, would be prepared to take the necessary steps to have the matter investigated. ATHLETICS HANDICAPS DECLARED Good entries have been received for the Fairlie Cycling and Athletic Club’s sports meeting to-night and Messrs D. Cuthill, junr. (cycling) and Rob. J. MOUNT NESSING SCHOOL PRIZE-GIVING At the break-up of the Mount Nessing School last week, a number of concert items were given by the children and were greatly appreciated. The prizes were presented by Mr Marshall, who was introduced by Mr P. Kidd, the chairman of the school committee A presentation on behalf of the school children was made to Mrs E. Hubbard by Margaret Norton, for her kindness in allowing the children to listen to her wireless. Helen Mackenzie on behalf of the children, expressed regret at
the departure of the teacher, Miss A. M. Fergusson, and asked her to accept a thermos flask as a token of their esteem. Tommy Mackenzie presented her with a posy of flowers. The school prize list is as follows: Form II: Trevor Irving, Helen Mackenzie, Bruce Kidd, Margaret Morton. Form I: Trixie Irving, Billy Dixon. half years, and took a very active part in the affairs of the district. Mrs H. G. Waters on behalf of the women of the district, Mr C T Norton, for the school committee, and Mr W. Brown, all spoke to glowing terms of Miss Fergusson's work at the school and interest in the district.
The presentation of an easy chair, a reading lamp and a clock from residents was made to Miss Fergussoi by Mr Peter Kidd, the chairman c’ the committee. Mrs Kidd presented her with a posy Miss Fergusson suitably replied, and xas greeted with prolonged applause. Musical items were supplied by Mrs A. S Mclnnes, Mr and Mrs Tindall .Temuka) and the Misses Helen and Jean Mackenzie. Dance music was played by Mrs R. Tinkler.
