RESIDENCE DESTROYED The residence occupied by Mr F. A. Scarr, Kohika, was burned to the ground last week. Mr Scarr left home early in the morning with a stock agent and on his return found the house a heap of ashes. There was a small insurance on the contents. FAREWELL FUNCTION A most successful function was held in Mr J. Sullivan’s granary in honour of Miss M. Porter, who has been teacher at Kohika during the last three years and has been transferred to Rangitata. The evening was spent in dancing Intermingled with stepdances by Miss White. Music was supplied by Mr L. Shea, Miss Hazel Gordon, Mrs Menzies, Miss Marjorie Donehue and Mr W. Thomas junr. The chairman (Mr White) said it was with regret that they had to part with Miss Porter. Her work in the school had been excellent. Mr L. G. Donehue, on behalf of the
school committee, asked Miss Porter to accept a clock. On behalf of the Kohika Basketball Club Miss Kee expressed regret at losing a staunch member and called on Miss O’Boyle to present a crystal trinket bowl to the guest of the evening. Miss Porter thanked residents and friends for the handsome gifts, especially the committee she had worked with during her term of office. She was very sorry to depart.
