SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT An enjoyable evening was spent by those present at the concert in aid of the Cave Sunday School funds. The Rev. F. H. Wilkinson and the Rev. Marshall presided and the accompaniists were Mrs D. Ker and Mr Blair. The first part of the programme consisted of items by the Cave Sunday School children as follows:—Opening chorus, the pupils, Margaret Esler; opening speech, Gilbert Seymour, recitation; “Jolly Little Gardeners” (six boys), Romamund Malthus, recitation; James Greene, recitation; Ella Brown, song; “A Bird in the Hand” (three girls); Doreen Moses, recitation; Silent Night (trip); Leslie Pearce, recitation; “I Don’t Want to Play in Your Yard,” (duet); Max Malthus, recitation; Gladys Greene, recitation; Miss Gwenyth Milne, song; part singing, senior pupils, Margaret Esler, closing speech. The second half of the night’s entertainment was ably supplied by the Trinity Choir, Timaru. SCHOOL PRIZE LIST Special prizes awarded to pupils of the Cave School were: The K.M. Foster Memorial prize for the dux of the school, Brenda Winter; attendance prie (boys), Brian Fitzgerald; attendance prize (girls), Brenda Winter; most improved work generally, Neroli Gillingham; history prize, lan Paterson; geography prize, Brian Fitzgerald; gardening prize, Gregory Chant. Sewing (judged by Mrs G. Fitzgerald): Std. VI: Brenda Winter and Doreen Moses, equal 1. Std. IV: Margaret Esler 1. Neroli Gillingham 2. Std. I: Myrtle Seymour 1. Primer: Ngaire Moody 1, Ngaire Rapley 2. Infants: Elma Young 1, Gladys Greene 2, Shona Esler 3. Both the Cave and Cannington school picnics which have been postponed in accordance with the regulations will be held at a later date. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs James Watson, “Tomomai,” Southland, will be the guests of Mrs James Scott, “Cannington,” for the Christmas holidays.
