DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 pin. yesterday!
General Situation.—Pressure is still rather low over the New Zealand area, a depression having developed off the West Coast of the North Island since Thursday night. An anti-cyclone of moderate intensity covers eastern Australia and the western and southern portion of the Tasman Sea. Winds.—Variable at first over the northern half of the North Island, otherwise south-easterly or southerly prevailing, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in places. Seas (New Zealand Waters) .—Rather rough to rough generally and a heavy southerly swell south of Castlepoint. Eastern Tasman Sea. —Strong southerly winds and rough seas. W’eather. —Still cloudy to overcast and in places misty; further rain probable in most districts with some heavy falls more especially in the North Island and the north-east portion of the south; mainly fair, however, on the West Coast of the South Island, and later improving generally; temperatures cold.
