BEAUTIFYING WASTE PLACES
A CALL TO THE PEOPLE By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. November 26. “It is a pleasure to see people enthusiastic over their gardens; it is healthy enthusiasm for the nation,” said the Hon. W, E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, at the opening of the Wellington Horticultural and Rose Show. “The Government wishes to gather into a national organisation those men and women who are imbued with the idea of beautifying their country.” Mr Parry said tiie officers of the various Government Departments had been called together in conference, and had decided to set up a committee to map out a policy for submission to a conference of beautifying societies, and other organisations interested in the w’ork.
“We want men and women who w T ill actually do work, otherwise it will never be done,” said the Minister. “We have lectured to school children enough. What about our doing the job? The bush was destroyed by grown people, not by children. The best example w T e can give to the children is to do tiie work.”
