TIMARU HARBOUR

COST OF THREE SCHEMES ENGINEER’S REPORT The estimated costs of the three schemes of improvements to the port of Timaru, now before the Harbour Board were submitted by the Resident Engineer (Mr B. W. Charman) in a report to the Board yesterday. The figures were as follow:

The estimates included the cost of dredging to be undertaken by dredge “No 350.” The provision of 10 per cent contingencies had been applied to each estimate. If it were decided to carry out the dredging out of revenue i.e not to put dredge “No 350” on to loan money, he felt that the sum set aside for contingencies should not be decreased. It was extremely difficult to estimate accurately, the output from the proposed Priestman dredge, and for this reason the contingency figure of 10 per cent had been applied to the total estimated costs of the various schemes.
