GOLD ROD AND MALA
SENSATIONAL GALLOPS AT RANDWICK OnlLed Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received September 29, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 29
At Randwick, on the course prope*. training was done with the flags fifty feet out.
Gold Rod (McCarten) went with Jubilee Son over the first five lurlongs and Imbiber over the last four. He beat both off, and ran the nine furlongs in lmin 56isec, covering the last mile in lmin 43isec, the best gallop of the season. Gold Rod’s effort was the best training gallop ever recorded at Randwick under the conditions until Mala (W. Cook) later in the morning ran nine furlongs in lmin 56isec, assisted by Golden Treasure over the last five furlongs.
These two great gallops occasioned much discussion. It is pointed it tfiat Gold Rod was carrying a bigger weight and going comfortably away from Imbiber at the finish, whereas Mala, although holding off his companion, was not far in front, and >he track was possibly faster at the time that Mala was working. Oro beat Rogerio over ten furlongs in 2min lOisec, a good gallop. Rob Roy again went well to defeat 11 Duce and Young Crusader over nine furlongs in lmin 58Lsec. Gay Sheik continues to work well. He beat Cognac over seven furlongs In lmin 30sec.
Trainer J. King's three Epsom entrants, Gay Blonde, Turbine and Duke Caledon galloped seven furlongs in lmin 29sec. Gay Blonde was goingmuch better than the others, leading them home. Billy Boy, carrying a light boy, beat Gustos over nine furlongs in lmin 58-1 sec.
oilver Standard (Knox) beat Cuddle (McCarten) by six lengths over seven furlongs in lmin 29sec. Sy 1 vandale ran nine furlongs in 2min. He was joined by Cerne Abbas at the six, and they come home together, taking lmin 18sec for the six furlongs. The Marne ran an easy seven furlongs with The Athenian in lmin 331 sec.
Silver Ring Impresses At Victoria Park the going was on the slow side. Silver Ring covered ten furlongs in 2.14. He went threequarter pace for the first four, done in 56sec. The last six took 1.18, and the last three 37ijsec. It was an attractive effort. At Rosebery. Silver Jubilee and On Parade shaped well over six furlongs in 1.17. Cuddle Disappoints “The Sun" says that Mr R. J. Murphy has decided to release McCarten from his Epsom engagement to ride Cuddle, whose display was disappointing to-day. McCarten will now ride The Marne in the Epsom.
