There are at present 20 vacancies for sons of returned soldiers at Flock House. The training at the house offers an excellent opportunity for sons of returned men to learn farming, according to the secretary of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association, Mr E. F. Willcox. The course lasts eight months, and boys must be equipped with a kit sufficient to last for that period, costing £4/14/8. They also have to pay part of the fare to the house, which is situated near Bulls in the North Island. After the boys have completed their training, they enter on a period of apprenticeship. Part of their wages is returned to the house and credited to their accounts to enable them to set up on their own account later if they desire. A large number of boys from Canterbury have taken the course, and the majority have been very successful.
