MINISTER CRITICISED
By Tel err aph Press Association ROTORUA, September 3. Criticism of the delay by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry) in indicating his opposition to the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club holding its forthcoming totalisator meeting at Cambridge, on October 24, instead of at Rotorua on September 26, was expressed by the master of the Rotorua Club, Dr. H. Bertram. The meeting was originally to have been held at Rotorua, but on account of alterations to the Arawa Park racecourse, application was made to have the venue of the meeting changed to Cambridge. The Auckland Racing Conference and the New Zealand Racing Conference consented to the change of venue and the date, but yesterday the Minister intimated by a telegram that he would not consent to the meeting being held anywhere but in Rotorua. Dr. Bertram said the Minister was advised of the Club’s application for a change of venue on August 14, and now the club, with three weeks’ notice, was confronted with the necessity of completely changing its plans, and endeavouring to put on the meeting in Rotorua. There appeared no reason whatever for this delay, which had placed the club in a most unfortunate position.
