SWIMMING

CHANGE OF HEADQUARTERS DESIRED By Telegraph—Pi ess Association CHRISTCHURCH, September 3. “It is a resentment which is purely the outcome of P. E. Mathieson’s not going to the Olympic Games. Because of it they have got together all these other excuses.” This opinion was expressed when the wish of the Otago Centre of he New Zealand Swimming Association to have the headquarters moved from Christchurch was made known at a meeting of the Council of the Association to-night. A circular which is being sent by the Otago Centre to other Centres was read at tie meeting. The circular stated that the Council was not doing all it might to foster the visits of overseas swimmers or to arrange regular interchanges of visits between Australia and New Zealand, nor had it done its best to obtain funds and assistance from the Government for comprehensive educational work. It was decided to reply to these statements. The plan adopted was for the Council in turn to circularise the Centres, providing them with data of the Council’s activities in trying to arrange for overseas visits, and also of its representations for assistance to the Government.
