TEMUKA
IN A QUANDARY EMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE Is the Temuka Unemployment Committee considered by the Government to have disbanded itself or is it that the Government feels that there may yet be a further use for such a body to assist the local supervision of relief work? Members of the committee, the Mayor (Mr A W. Buzan), the secretary (Mr L. Butters), and the Certifying Officer (Mr L. W. Parrant) have been wondering for some time how it is that when unemployment committees in other parts of the Dominion have been disbanded no word of the Government’s wishes has come to Temuka. It is some time since the local committee met, the work having been carried out in the meantime by the i Certifying Officer and Mr Butters. At the last meeting it was agreed that no | further meetings be held until suffi- 1 cient business accumulated to warrant one. The Mayor said yesterday that no official word had yet been received and members were at a loss to understand the Government’s reason. Valuable work had been achieved by the body while it was active, and if its services were not required now it should be properly disbanded.
