The Moscow correspondent of “The Times” says: What “Pravda,” the Soviet newspaper describes as the greatest demonstration of hatred of Fascism ever held, passed off with hundreds of thousands of young men and women, followed by 10,000 boys and girls marching past Lenin’s tomb. The whole city was beflagged, placards everywhere bearing slogans: “Fascism is preparing to attack; let’s hit back! Down with bloody Fascism! Hands off the Spanish people.” Simultaneously it was announced that the 1914 class end half of the 1915 class of conscripts and all men exempted in 1935 would be called up, totalling 900,000, and bringing the army up to 1,600,000. This makes effective the decree of August 10, lowering the age of military service from 21 to 19. Members of the procession carried many caricatures of Herr Hitler. One represented him as an ugly demon, spreading death throughout the world. M. Stalin’s dictum: “Pigs are warned to keep their snouts out of our garden” was prominently displayed.
