MAU ON THE MOVE IN SAMOA
BOAT LOADS JOURNEY TO APIA STREET DEMONSTRATIONS ' PROPOSED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyright (Received May 3, 7.30 p.m.) APIA, May 2. Ten large fautasi rowing boats), containing 350 men, and flying Mau flags, appeared off Apia harbour on Friday afternoon, later landing on the Beach Road, between Mulivai and Vaisigano rivers. The Mau Malaga from Savaii was headed by Autagavai, the notorious chief of Palauli. The members of the Mau stated they intended to parade publicly through Apia. On Saturday afternoon, they paraded from Tauese to Vaimoso, with bands and Mau flags. They held a ceremony of presentation of foods to the Mau Central Committee, now assembled at Vaimoso. Since the middle of April, Malaga parties have been arriving at Mulifanua from Savaii, and are camping in the villages between there and Apia. It was their intention to reach Apia on Anzac Day, and parade with brass bands, and Mau flags and wear the Mau uniform, but the weather delayed them. There has been no disorderly conduct, and no police action has been taken.
