GALLANT WARRIOR AND PATRIOT
TRIBUTES TO EMPEROR OF ABYSSINIA United Press Association—By Electrio Telegrapn—■Copyright (Received May 3, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 2. “The Sunday Dispatch” pays tributes to Emperor Haile Selassie, as a gallant warrior, skilful statesman, and patriot worthy of the highest rank in history. His stand against modern arms may be regarded as an inspiring epic of heroism and endurance, and
deserves all honour in inevitable defeat. Wherever he seeks refuge, he will be welcomed. There is no part of the British realm, where he would not be afforded a friendly sanctuary. According to the diplomatic correspondent of "The Sunday Times," Emperor Haile Selassie has definitely abdicated, and has transferred control to his Ministers. The Emperor’s sudden change of mind, was due to the men on whom he was relying for further efforts, refusing to fight. Moreover Emperor Halle Selassie was compelled to recognise that his personal safety might be endangered, journeying through the somewhat unfriendly portion of Abyssinia, before he could reach a point where fresh resistance could be organised.
