The Timaru Borough Council office will be open till 9 p.m. on Friday for the purpose of receiving rate payments. In view of this the office will not be open on Saturday afternoon as previously advised. The retail section of the South Canterbury Employers’ Association announce that the retail shops in Timaru will close all day on Saturday, February 22, on account of the Friendly Societies’ annual picnic at Oamaru. H. Allchurch and Co. insert a special notice in the auction columns that owing to the heavy rush of fruit now being over, they are holding their daily auction sales at 10 a.m. in place of 9 a.m The new time starts from today H. Allchurch and Co. insert a final reminder of the property sale which they are holding to-day at 2.30 p.m. on the premises 91 Avenue Road on behalf of Mrs Bessie Matson and the Administratrix of the late W. Further details will be seen in the auction columns The Timaru Municipal Band will give a recital in the Theatre Royal on Sunday evening at 8.15. This will be the last public appearance of the Band before leaving for New Plymouth. The test pieces, hymn and march will be played. So that hon. members and supporters may secure seats, Messrs Chos. Begg and Co. have consented to reserve at no extra charge. To-day commencing at 12.30 p.m. with the outside articles Morton and Co. Ltd., will sell at the residence <94 Avenue Road) of the late Miss M. Wilson the whole of her superior furniture and furnishings, also Player piano, Vauxhall 3-seater coupe, fireproof safe, etc. The property will be offered at 2 p.m. to be followed by car, Player piano, mahogany and walnut furniture. To-morrow the linen, blankets, books, cutlery, together with the kitchen articles, and any lines not offered to-day will be sold.
