WOMEN’S DIVISION

OTAIO BRANCH At the February meeting of the Otaio branch of the Women’s Division, Mrs H. B. S. Johnstone presided. Mrs Grant, of Waimate, gave a most instructive lecture on different kinds of haemorrhages and was accorded a vote of thinks. A picnic was held recently in Mrs H. B. 8. Johnstone’s beautiful gardens. In glorious sunshine members and visitors were welcomed by Mr and Mrs Johnstone, who showed everyone over the spacious grounds. Orange and lemon trees were seen growing in th? open air bearing large fruit. Tennis enthusiasts hid the pleasure of playing on a fine grass court. Races were held for the children. Mrs Johnstone kindly gave boxes of chocolates to the winners. Afternoon tea was served to 50 or 00 guests on the lawn. All tiny tots received a soft t~y. A lucky spot competition was won by Mrs F. C Martin. The prize was given by Mrs J. J. Mell wrick. Everyone present was then invited to the orchard where a great treat was given them of gooseberries, currants and cherries. Before leaving the vice-president (Miss Forrest) thanked Mr and Mrs Johnstone and family for their hospitality, to which Mr Johnstone replied and said he hoped that the gathering would be made an annual one. Mrs Gregan, president of the Teschemakers Institute, also thanked Mr and Mrs Johnstone for their hospitality and also the Otaio branch of the W.D.F.U. for extending an invitation to members nf the Teschemakers Women’s Institute to be present at the picnic. Competitions for February resulted: Victorian posy, Miss Brunton 1, Mrs Dix 2. Gingerbread, Mrs East 1, Miss C. Hall 2. Jar of raspberry jam, Mrs L. Forrest 1, Mrs East 2. Hostesses were Mrs J. Hall, Misses Hall and Mrs H. B. S. Johnstoen.
